Up Steps
for L.M.M.

to what I’m into, she sometimes comes along

what she’d choose to attend, to go to,
in another direction entirely
where she’s at home is usually elsewhere

though she, at times, accompanies me,
when she does, she tags along
at times, just short of being dragged along

at events where I am at home
she is out of place, present out of obligation

events which are an accumulation of my steps
are not her steps accumulated

her next step and my next step
are different journeys entirely
to add to, to continue
