a nation, a meal, rest, apple juice
carrot juice like milk, stain lips

where she come from to this frontier

know cousins, no cousins in Canada
severed ties, as if she could

no relations, no ship go back and forth
between two countries without a treaty

out of the blue, into the ice age

to get her out of school early

a wedding or was it a funeral to attend
white dress or black,
yellow dress or red

she has to show up in something or other
a wedding, a burial or birth

baby in its birthday suit,
kicking and screaming
was her not very long ago
