for Joseph Hermann
he has a philanthropic side
disparate sides of life, within him
tied
this life, this world
as if in need of chains
to connect two sides
chains, without which,
this earth we’re on, spinning
would break apart
garment without seams
which Christ wore
what held it together
what holds together who
imagines we are, they are
so very different
because of languages, races
because of the layers
which classes make
when it’s all one cake,
one birthday party
