A Poet’s Place
for Lorna Goodison

words lived in
like shoes well worn

words of my poems
not from my pen

words I write
like pens pigs live in

like old tennis shoes
at times, unfit
to drag into the house,
left upon
the WELCOME mat
at the door

or outside the kitchen door
at the back of the house

at times my words, worn
as well as chewed upon
by pets
