when exactly to release what

like shelling peas
like shucking corn
or stripping bark away
to leave the coconut’s
ball shell bare
white meat or jelly inside

crack it, let the water waste
or save it, careful
is what’s required

how reckless I was
our last encounter
fucked up the steps

stripped her too quickly
not even her panties
left upon her, all in one go

she was livid, left the bed,
the room, banged the door

her wish always is
