Verse or Worse
for D.B.A.

in a poetry cage can't get at her
in a poetry cage can't get near her

Hannibal Lecter in a cage

is a poet an animal like Hannibal
or similarly dangerous--as unpredictable

" So what do ya think, Cordell?
" Does Lecter want to fuck her
“or kill her or eat her alive?"

" Probably all three,
“though I wouldn't want
“to predict in what order."

outside of oozing ink
of what are poets capable

she, interestingly, is one too
and similarly volatile
similarly unpredictable
if these things are true of poets

are we freaks too
to be confined to our cages of words
our pages of words

outside of words, what are we capable of
what intentions have we, outside of words
outside of verse

Hannibal "the cannibal" Lecter
what was he after, what was he hungry for

life health love, things I'm after
things I thirst and hunger for
for our 4 arms, our 4 legs

what potential fill our 8 limbs
down to our toes, down to our fingertips
